The Communication Toolkit contains an Environmental Assessment, Communication Environment Resource Guide, and light and sound level meters that will enable healthcare professionals to assess the extent to which the environment supports communication. The Toolkit is filled with recommendations for interventions that will enhance the long term care environment, making it facilitative of communication, rehabilitation goals, and care planning.

Seeking 60 healthcare professionals!
We are looking for SLPS, OTs, PTs, and Nurses who are currently employed in a long term care setting to help us evaluate and test the Communication Toolkit. This groundbreaking study is funded by the National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders.

  • The participating healthcare professionals will:
      • Step 1: Complete consent form.
        Mail or fax (440-256-1881) to I.D.E.A.S. Inc, 8055 Chardon Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094.
         
      • Step 2: Once you have signed the consent, you will be emailed a link to complete a brief pre-test online.
         
      • Step 3: I.D.E.A.S., Inc. will send you the Communication Toolkit and other supplies needed for the study by mail.
         
      • Step 4: Read the Communication Environment Resource Guide.
         
      • Step 5: Use the Communication Toolkit assessment with the 2 clients with dementia.
         
      • Step 6: Complete a post test and Communication Toolkit evaluation online.
         
      • Step 7: Return light meter and sound level meter to IDEAS in original box, using the postage paid label sent to you.
         
      • Step 8: Receive
        • $75 for participation in the study.
        • Recognition as a Clinical Review Panel member in the final version of the Communication Toolkit: Environmental Interventions for Dementia.
        • Certificate of Commendation as a Panel member
        • 30 minutes of free phone consulting from Jennifer Brush, MA, CCC/SLP or Margaret Calkins, PhD to answer any questions you may have about dementia programming or environmental design.
